How Aurathea Reads the I Ching

The I Ching (易經, Yìjīng — the Book of Changes) is one of the oldest continuously consulted texts in the world, and Aurathea approaches it the way we approach every tradition inside this product: teach it in full, and be exact about what our own role in the encounter is and is not.

The single fact this page exists to state plainly: Aurathea never generates your cast. A hexagram is built from six lines, and every one of those lines comes from an act you perform — three coins tossed, forty-nine yarrow stalks divided, or your own considered gesture. Aurathea supplies the line-selector, the hexagram lookup, and the reading that follows from the figure you produced. What we do not supply, ever, is randomness dressed up as your randomness. If a service generates the coin flips for you and calls the result your cast, the entropy is the service's, not yours, and the tradition's own claim to meaning does not transfer. We built the practice the other way around: your act first, our reading second.

Once your cast exists, Aurathea draws the hexagram, its Judgement and Image, and its changing lines, resolves the transformation into a resulting figure where one applies, and presents the images the tradition assigns to what you built. That is the full extent of the capability: we draw, we compute, we read, we teach. We do not respond to your cast, we do not review it, and no reading here stands in for a person on the other end considering your situation. The voice is the tradition's material rendered honestly, not a correspondence.

Teaching the I Ching well means stating its claims in its own terms — millennia of continuous use, sixty-four figures built from a genuinely combinatorial structure, layers of commentary from named scholars across two thousand years. We do not hedge that history to seem modest, and we do not inflate it to seem mystical. Where later articles in this track name a person, a date, or a school, that attribution is held to the same standard everywhere in Aurathea: documented fact stated as documented fact, tradition stated as tradition, nothing implied to be more certain than the record supports.

Aurathea will teach you the full sixty-four, the Judgement and the Image, the Ten Wings, the commentators who shaped the text you are reading. Aurathea will not tell you what is going to happen to you. The hexagram your cast produces is an image to sit with — not a forecast, not an instruction, not a verdict issued on your behalf. That boundary is not a limitation apologized for; it is the shape of the practice itself, and it is why the cast has to be yours.
